Man of Sorrows
Isaiah tells us the Messiah would be “a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief” (Isaiah 53:3). Because Jesus successfully suffered and overcame all things, He can help us in our things. He can bear us up now because He bore all things before. “Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows,” Isaiah also tells us (Isaiah 53:4). I did this painting to reflect that suffering and remind of that truth. The red underpainting representing our sorrows, our suffering, our pains, and our sins that Christ willfully took upon Himself to know how to succor us in our infirmities.
