Negotiating with Grandin

“Negotiating with Grandin”

This is one of the original interior illustrations I was commissioned to do for the book “From Darkness Unto Light”on the translation and coming forth of the Book of Mormon. This image shows Joseph Smith and Martin Harris agreeing to the contract for the printing of the first 5,000 copies of the Book of Mormon for the price of $3,000.  Grandin assumed little risk in the venture he felt would surely be a failure, demanding secured payment up front through the mortgaging of Martin Harris’ farm.
